Welcome to the Evollve weekly newsletter, where every Monday we’ll take a look at some of the most impressive feats of the past week in NCAA volleyball.
Biggest Upset
After pulling the biggest upset last week, UC San Diego found themselves on the opposite side of the biggest upset this week, falling to UC Riverside on Friday despite and 85.4% chance to win. The Tritons still went 1-1 against UC Santa Barbara and UC Riverside, just not in the expected order.
Biggest Comeback
Alabama A&M was four points away from a sweep on Sunday when they held a 21-20 lead in set three, but that ended up being the last time in the match that they led a set later than the fifth point. Southern’s 3-0 run gave them a pulse, and they pulled away in set four before squeaking out a 15-13 win in set five to finish the reverse sweep.
Best Clutch Performance
The Fun Belt lived up to its nickname on Friday, as Louisiana took down Georgia Southern in a fun five-set match after nearly blowing a 2-0 set lead. Both of the top two clutch performers came from that one — Louisiana’s Grace Sweeney added 1.12 wins in the clutch to bring her team the victory, while Georgia Southern’s Reagan Barth added 0.94 in the loss.
Evollve Top 25
We’ll wrap things up with our model’s top 25 heading into the new week. As we near the NCAA Tournament, it was another week with very little movement, including no new top 25 teams.
