Weekly Recap: Week 13

Welcome to the Evollve weekly newsletter, where every Monday we’ll take a look at some of the most impressive feats of the past week in NCAA volleyball.
Biggest Upset
Seattle entered Saturday’s contest against Oregon State having won just one of its previous 17, but they held the Beavers to .147 hitting en route to a five-set victory that our model gave them just a 5.5% chance to pull off. Even after Seattle took the first two sets, the match was still not far from a coin flip.
Biggest Comeback
Jackson State needed just three more points to advance in the SWAC tournament on Friday after they held a 12-6 lead in set five, but Southern refused to let their season end — going on a 6-0 run to tie it up before finishing off the set 17-15. Southern’s win probability dropped to under 1% after falling down 12-6.
Best Clutch Performance
In Army’s five-set win over Colgate on Friday, Mackenzie Lynch had 25 kills, including six in the fifth set to give the Black Knights the victory. She added 0.93 wins worth of win probability in the clutch, most of which in the critical fifth set, to help Army advance to the Patriot League title game the following day.
Evollve Top 25
We’ll wrap things up with our model’s top 25 heading into the new week. With less than a week until the Selection Show, the rankings are mostly stable at this point, but Texas did reclaim the No. 2 spot over Kentucky by a slim margin this weekend.
