Weekly Recap: Week 7

Welcome to the Evollve weekly newsletter, where every Monday we’ll take a look at some of the most impressive feats of the past week in NCAA volleyball.
Biggest Upset
Murray State defeated Illinois State in five sets on Saturday with just an 11% chance to pull the upset. The Racers got 21 kills on .302 hitting from Ella Vogel, who has now recorded 20+ kills on .300+ hitting four times — more than anyone else in the MVC.
Biggest Comeback
On Friday, USC Upstate pulled off one of the greatest comebacks you will ever see after their win probability dipped to 0.02%. Yes, that’s two hundredths of a percent. Winthrop took the first two sets and held a 22-14 lead in the third set, needing just three points to close out the match. Instead, USC Upstate flipped a switch.
Best Clutch Performance
It’s only fitting that our top clutch player this week came from USC Upstate, although Ella Vogel’s performance in Murray State’s upset win was the runner up.
Kensley Haneline of USC Upstate only finished with 13 kills in the match — third on the team — but four of those came in set five, including the final two points of the match after it was knotted at 13.
Evollve Top 25
We’ll wrap things up with our model’s top 25 heading into the new week. No significant movement at the top, but North Carolina enters the chart this week at No. 25.
