Weekly Recap: Week 9

Welcome to the Evollve weekly newsletter, where every Monday we’ll take a look at some of the most impressive feats of the past week in NCAA volleyball.
Biggest Upset
With just an 8.1% chance to win, Texas Tech took down UCF on Saturday for its first Big 12 win of the season. The Red Raiders got 23 digs from Sierra Grizzle.
Biggest Comeback
Saturday also gave us the week’s best comeback, as Little Rock was in position to avenge their Friday sweep loss with a win the next day. They took a 15-5 lead in set four after taking the first and third sets, but Eastern Illinois fought all the way back for a 28-26 set win before finishing it off in set five.
Best Clutch Performance
Canisius won the second-most “exciting” match of the week on Saturday (as measured by length of the win probability graph — lots of ups and downs). They alternated sets the whole way with Siena, including sets two through five being decided by two points and sets four and five going to extras.
The Griffs pulled it out after surviving four straight Siena match points down 14-10 in set five. Madison Cowan added a full win’s worth of win probability in the clutch in the match, earning our clutch performance of the week.
Evollve Top 25
We’ll wrap things up with our model’s top 25 heading into the new week. As Nebraska continues to sweep everyone in their path, they continue to distance themselves from the pack in the rankings.
